Major Steven Green dedicated 20 years to the U.S. Army after earning his degree from Purdue University and commissioning as a second lieutenant in 1980. Throughout his military career, he served in leadership roles across the United States and overseas, including assignments in Germany and South Korea.

Green credits much of his success to the unwavering support of his wife, who worked while raising their children and sacrificed career advancement opportunities as the family relocated throughout his military service. He also recognizes the sacrifices his children made as they adapted to frequent moves and new schools around the world.

In the later years of his Army career, Green served as a Professor of Military Science, helping train future Army officers at several colleges in Illinois and Northwest Indiana. Following his military retirement, he continued his commitment to service with Chicago Public Schools' JROTC program, where he spent 20 years as an instructor, operations officer, and ultimately Deputy Director.

Today, after more than 40 years of service in uniform and education, Green enjoys retirement alongside his wife, children, and grandchildren. A lifetime member of the American Legion, Disabled American Veterans, and Veterans of Foreign Wars, he remains grateful for the family support that made his military and civilian careers possible.

"The military taught me leadership, self-discipline, and planning—it made me who I am today," Green said. "But without the support of my family, none of it would have been possible."
