Sergeant Stephany Leonard served six years in the U.S. Army National Guard, including four years on active Title 10 orders, where she trained soldiers and supported units preparing for mobilization. She spent two years at Muscatatuck Urban Training Center, ultimately serving as a budget analyst overseeing operations, while also volunteering during joint-service exercises.

A Valparaiso native, Leonard completed her service in 2012 and transitioned into a career in banking and finance. Now a mortgage loan officer, she originally enlisted seeking stability, structure, and opportunity after leaving home at 17—motivated in part by the positive impact military service had on her sister and the chance to earn college benefits.

Leonard credits her service with building her confidence, resilience, and drive, while also exposing her to the lasting challenges many veterans face. After witnessing her husband’s battle with service-connected PTSD, she became a passionate advocate for veteran mental health. Today, she works with local organizations to raise awareness, educate others, and support veterans and their families navigating trauma and life after service.
